Patrick Roy Timeline





Oct 15, 1965 - Patrick Roy is Born in Quebec City, Quebec. Mario Lemieux is also born on this day.
1981-82: Patrick joins his first major team, the Ste-Foy Gouverneurs in the QAAA league



1982-83: Patrick moves up to the QMJHL with the Granby Bisons
1984-85: After playing only 1 game for the Sherbrooke Canadiens (AHL), Patrick fills in to win the Calder Cup, and also gets his first NHL experience.




1985-86: Patrick is named starter of the Montreal Canadiens and leads them to a Stanley Cup while also winning his first of 3 Conn Smythe Awards
1986-1987: Patrick shares the William Jennings trophy with Brian Hayward




1987-88: Patrick gets elected to the NHL Second All Star Team and shares the Jennings with Hayward for a second time
1988-89: Patrick takes the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup finals, but loses to the Calgary Flames. He also collects his first Vezina and third Jennings with Hayward




1989-90: Patrick wins his second Vezina and also a Trico goaltended award. He also won himself a wife on June 9th, 1990, marrying Michele Piuze.
1990-91: Patrick makes the NHL Second All Star Team for the second time




1991-92: Patrick finishes with a 2.36 GAA and wins the Vezina, the Jennings (by himself) and is selected to the First All Star Team
1992-93: It takes St. Patrick only 20 games to win his 2nd Stanley Cup and 2nd Conn Smythe.




1993-94: After an excellent regular season, the Canadiens fail to make the second round, but Patrick showed his dedication by playing and winning game 4 after missing game 3 with an appendicitis
1994-95: The strike shortened season happens to be Patrick's only losing season (17-20-6). Without including this year, he had 18 winning seasons in a row...




1995-96: The most eventful year in Patrick's career included a trade from Montreal to the newly moved Colorado Avalanche (formerly Quebec Nordiques) and his third Stanley Cup as the Avalanche swept the Panthers.
1996-97: His first full season with the Avalanche included some intense rivalry with Detroit including the famous fight with Mike Vernon




1997-98: Patrick again fights the Red Wings goalie, this time, Chris Osgood. He also plays for team Canada in the Olympics.
1998-99: Patrick gets his 400th win on Feb 5th,  at the age of 33 (youngest  ever).  The Avalanche make it to the Western Conference Finals.




1999-00: Once again the Avalanche got to the Western Conference finals, but once again the would not get through to the Stanley Cup finals.
2000-01: After a great regular season, the Avalanche win a thrilling playoffs by beating Martin Brodeur's New Jersey Devil's in Game 7.  This would be Patrick's last Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe.




2001-02: Patrick sets his career best GAA mark with an amazing 1.94. He would also win his last Jennings award for fewest goals allowed.
2002-03: During the regular season, Mr. Roy becomes the first goalie to play in 1000 games.  Patrick's last season ends in a disappointing Game 7 loss to the Minnesota Wild.  He announces his retirement on May 28th.




Oct 28, 2003: The Avalanche retire #33 during the Patrick Roy Night ceremonies.
Sept 29, 2005: Patrick takes over as head coach of the Quebec Remparts.  He is also Vice President and co-owner. 




May 28, 2006: After losing in the QMJHL finals to Moncton, the Remparts win the Memorial Cup, the top CHL championship.
Nov 13, 2006: Patrick Roy will be inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame.
